POSTED: 12:27 am EST November 20, 2008

(Sports Network) - Raymar Morgan scored 22 points and hauled in six rebounds to lead fifth-ranked Michigan State past IPFW, 70-59.

Kalin Lucas added 17 points and doled out three assists for the Spartans (2-0), who began their season on Sunday with a 100-62 romp over Idaho. Chris Allen chipped in seven points and three boards in the win.

Ben Botts poured in 22 points for the Mastodons (0-2), who were handled easily, 71-43, by Xavier in last Friday's season opener. David Carson gave 17 points in defeat.

The Mastadons stood their ground and were right there with the Spartans for the better part of the first half.

IPFW even led 21-20 late in the first half, as Botts nailed a three-pointer. However, Michigan State outscored its counterpart 12-3 to close out the half for a 32-24 lead at the intermission.

The Mastadons scored the first 11 points of the second half to grab a 35-32 lead. Carson got things going with a three-pointer and Botts' jumper closed it out with about 17 minutes showing on the clock.

The teams traded baskets and the Mastodons held a two-point lead with just under 11 minutes showing on the clock.

Delvon Roe's 1-of-2 showing from the line then sparked a 13-0 Spartans run. Morgan went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe to close out the surge with just over six minutes showing on the clock to make it 55-44.

Michigan State's lead hovered around 10 points the rest of the way, and the Spartans cruised to victory.

Game Notes
