Johnson, Moore Help Boilermakers Get Past IPFW

West Lafayette, IN -- (Sports Network) - JaJuan Johnson finished with 21 points and nine rebounds to lead 10th-ranked Purdue to a 70-55 win over IPFW at Mackey Arena.E'Twaun Moore added 19 points and six boards for the Boilermakers (10-2), who have won five in a row since suffering two consecutive losses. Marcus Green chipped in 12 points for Purdue, which was coming off a 76-58 win over Stephen Curry-led Davidson at Conseco Fieldhouse. The Boilermakers host Valparaiso on December 28 before opening their Big Ten schedule two days later against Illinois. Nick Daniels had 14 points for IPFW, but was the only player in double digits for the Mastodons (4-8), who have lost three in a row and six of seven. Jeremy Mixon had nine points, while Deilvez Yearby added eight points and seven rebounds in the loss. The game was back-and-forth for most of the first half, as the schools were tied at 17 with a little less than eight minutes left. But Purdue ripped off 11 consecutive points to take control -- Moore had the first seven, and Johnson ended the burst with a bucket for a 28-17 advantage. Johnson's basket in the final seconds gave the Boilermakers a 36-22 lead at the intermission. Purdue maintained the margin in the second half, increasing the lead to 49-32 on a Moore basket a little over five minutes into the frame. A 10-point run later in the second half, which Green ended with six points, put the Boilermakers ahead 65-41 with 4 1/2 minutes remaining, and they cruised to the finish from there. Game Notes Purdue has won all three meetings with IPFW, having also won a 79-69 decision in 2005...IPFW made 47.4 percent of its three-point attempts (9-of-19), but just 39.2 percent of its field goals overall...The Mastodons had 15 turnovers, compared to seven for Purdue...The Boilermakers hit on just three of their 19 three-point tries, but were 45.9 percent from the floor overall.
