SAGINAW, Mich. -- A new report said the Saginaw Bay could be a hub for wind energy. The data was put together by the Land Policy Institute at Michigan State University. The report said it would be an excellent spot for offshore wind turbines.Offshore wind could generate more than 300,000 megawatts of electricity around the state’s Great Lakes.By comparison, the wind farms in the Thumb-area could potentially generate 16,000 megawatts.
In comparison, the Karn/Weadock coal and natural gas-fired power plant near Bay City generates 2,101 megawatts per year, enough to meet the electricity needs of 1.3 million people. To read more about the MSU study, click here.
