Loewen Placed On DL For Second Time In 2008

POSTED: 7:46 pm EDT July 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles placed pitcher Adam Loewen on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a re-injury of the stress fracture in his left elbow.

The left-handed, 24-year-old left Sunday's game against Texas in the fifth inning just days removed from a April 25 - June 29 stint on the DL. He is 0-2 with an 8.02 earned-run average in seven games for Baltimore this season.

To replace Loewen on the roster, the O's have selected the contract of pitcher Alberto Castillo from Triple-A Norfolk. The 33-year-old left-hander is 3-1 with a 2.05 ERA in 19 games with Norfolk this season. To make room for Castillo on the 40-man roster, Baltimore transferred pitcher Troy Patton from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
