Los Angeles, CA -- (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Braves signed pitcher Julian Tavarez for the remainder of the season Tuesday, hoping to bolster a banged up bullpen.Tavarez, 35, is with his third team this season, having been previously released by both Boston and Milwaukee. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 7.20 earned run average in 16 combined appearances this season with the Sox and Brewers. Relievers Manny Acosta and Jeff Bennett, along with utility man Omar Infante, were placed on the DL Sunday prior to the Braves opening their six-game road trip against the Dodgers on Monday. Atlanta did not immediately announce a move to the 25-man roster, but did transfer pitcher John Smoltz from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list, opening a spot on the 40-man roster.
