The mother who allegedly kidnapped her own 10-day-old child is behind bars Friday. Debbie Cooley was arrested in Osceola County.

On Wednesday, the 21st Circuit Court of Isabella County ordered Debbie Lee Cooley to surrender her 10-day-old son, Kevin Ross Cooley, to the custody of the Michigan Department of Human Services.

Cooley failed to show for the hearing after being made aware of the order by the Department of Human Services.

A citizen spotted the suspect vehicle, a tan 1989 Mercury Marquis, in the Marion area.

He alerted the Michigan State Police and pointed out to troopers the vehicle had proceeded into a heavily wooded area.

Authorities proceeded into the wooded area and located the vehicle near a cabin, which troopers were granted permission to enter and they were able to secure the child and detain two suspects.

The baby was then turned over to the Department of Human Services.

Cooley is being held in the Isabella County jail, and has two outstanding warrants for her arrest, which are not related to this incident.

Police said her male counterpart, Richard Lee Grass, was released pending a prosecutor review of his involvement in the matter.
