FLINT, Mich. -- A man blew off his hand when he tried to throw an explosive out a window while a baby was in the apartment, officials said. The incident happened shortly after noon, at a home on Avon Street in Flint.Police are still trying to figure out what the man was doing in the first place, but the victim’s landlord said he knows why his tenant allegedly had an explosive device in his apartment.Jeff Lott claims the man was angry and about to be evicted for not paying rent for months.Police are investigating whether that is indeed the case.Neighbors commented that things definitely did not go as planned for the 28-year-old victim.A few neighbors called 911 while another helped apply pressure to his wound. One neighbor kept an eye on his 1-year-old daughter, who was in the home when all this happened.Rescue workers rushed the man to a hospital for treatment, but police said they doubt his hand will be saved. One witness said the explosive was a conventional firecracker fairly large in diameter and that he’s just happy the converted house did not catch on fire because more than seven people live there.Police said it is unknown at this time if the man will face any charges or if the incident was really an accident.
