Coal Train Derails In Saginaw, Closes M-13

SAGINAW, Mich. -- Authorities have closed a section of Washington Avenue/M-13 near Potter Street in Saginaw after a coal train derailed just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday.The train was headed from Flint to the Consumers Power Karn Weadock power plant in Hampton Township.Eight of the trains cars derailed off the track but none of the coal has spilled, according to officials.Rail workers from Canada were called to upright the train but it could take two to three days before M-13 will reopen.
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.Detour signs are posted throughout the area:If you are heading south on M-13, motorists need to turn left on First Street then turn right onto Third Street. Take another right turn onto Potter Street and follow it back to M-13.If you are heading north on M-13, motorists need to turn right on Potter Street then turn left onto Third Street. Take another left on Kirk and follow it back to M-13.
