SAGINAW, Mich. -- The U.S. Coast Guard has pulled the body of a 39-year-old Pinconning man from Saginaw Bay.The Coast Guard said they received a report of a fisherman who failed to return from an ice fishing trip on the Saginaw River Tuesday evening.Extensive searches were conducted by an airboat and a helicopter overnight and the man’s body was eventually found a mile off shore from the Pinconning River. The Bay County sheriff’s department said Thursday the man pulled from the bay was Michael Drouse, 39, of Pinconning.
The medical examiner said cause of death was drowning, and officials said the man wasn't wearing a life vest.He may have ridden his four-wheeler into open water, according to the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard urges the public to stay off the ice because significant winds and warming temperatures have eroded the ice and created large cracks and openings.
