MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- A home day care center in Mount Pleasant was shut down Tuesday after investigators found a registered sex offender living in the home where the facility was run.The day care owner’s 27-year-old son was living at the address, but according to police, he was convicted of fourth-egree criminal sexual conduct in 2006. His victim was a girl between 13 and 16 years old.The Michigan Department of Human Services and Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing, said they took emergency action to protect the health, welfare and safety of children and immediately revoked Rebecca Chiodini's child care licenses.Chiodini now has to inform all of the parents of children in her care that her certificate of registration has been suspended and that she can no longer provide day care.
Chiodini has held a certificate of registration to operate a family day care home since May 12, 1994. The certificate of registration was for six children.Michigan law defines a day care family home as "a private home in which one but fewer than seven minor children are received for care and supervision for periods of less than 24 hours a day, unattended by a parent or legal guardian, except children related to an adult member of the family by blood, marriage, or adoption."To view a complete list of registered sex offenders in Michigan, click here.
