GRATIOT COUNTY, Mich. -- Police said Friday they captured Mid Michigan Correctional Facility escaped inmate Laytwan T. Jackson at about 11 p.m.Police said they found Jackson hiding in a shed just north of St. Louis Street. At about 9:20 a.m. on Friday, officials noticed that Jackson, who was part of an inmate work crew, was missing.Jackson, 18, is serving a two-and-a-half to 15-year sentence for a conviction of second-degree home invasion in Ingham County.
Rain storms made it difficult for crews and K-9 units to conduct in-depth searches. State police even brought in a helicopter in hopes of tracking Jackson down before nightfall. While the manhunt for Jackson moved forward, schools in Saint Louis and Breckenridge went into lockdown mode.“All of our internal doors are always locked,” Saint Louis Superintendent Robert Lange said. “As soon as we were notified we went into a hard lockdown, meaning that all of our internal and external doors were locked.”Lange said his staff sent out two instant updates to parents in the community notifying them of the situation. The Mid Michigan Correctional Facility is a minimum-security prison located on 40 acres of land in the northeast section of St. Louis. There are eight separate housing units contained in four buildings. Each unit houses up to 150 prisoners in a dormitory-style setting, according to its Web site.Anyone with any information about the escape should contact police.
