Car Chase Started Over $4.23 Of Stolen Gas
Suspect Now Jailed, Waiting Arraignment On Several Charges

ARENAC COUNTY, Mich. -- Arenac County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 59-year-old Bay City man after a high-speed chase that started with the theft of $4.23 in gasoline.The incident started around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the North Port Marina gas station in Au Gres.The suspect pumped the small amount of gas and left without paying.He was headed southbound on U.S. 23 when a deputy started following him and the chase began.After hitting speeds in excess of 100 mph and through several county roads, it ended when the suspect exited U.S. 23 at M-65 and lost control of his vehicle, crashing into a ravine.The man was treated and released but is now lodged in the Arenac County Jail awaiting arraignment on a felony fleeing and eluding third-degree charge as well as misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and larceny of gasoline.
