Hazmat Team Called To Saginaw Business

Powder Turned Out To Be Lime-Based Fertilizer

Just before noon an industrial building was evacuated because of a suspicious substance.

Firefighters and hazmat teams were called to Thompson Industries in the 600 block of North Hamilton.

The company makes parts for satellite antenna systems. According to Saginaw County Central Dispatch, a suspicious substance was found inside the building and following the discovery, the building was evacuated around 10:30 a.m.

The substance was a non-hazardous lime-based material used to make lawn fertilizer. There is no word right now on how it got into the facility.

The company has returned to normal activities and the incident is being investigated.

There are no reports of injuries from the substance or the evacuation.
