There were some tense moments for a local bartender Friday morning during an armed robbery at a Kawkawlin bar.

Police said two men -- one armed with a handgun, the other armed with a crowbar -- entered the County House Lounge on East Grove Street around 2 a.m.

The bartender told police the suspects ordered her to open the bar’s safe and the cash registers. Police said the thieves made off with an undetermined amount of money.

Before leaving, the suspects locked the bartender in a back room and left.

Police said the bartender was not injured.

While Mid-Michigan accounts for more than 11 percent of the state population, only 7 percent of property-related crimes happen here.

Of the nearly 3,000 robbery arrests made statewide in 2006, just 20 occurred in Bay County.
