SAGINAW COUNTY, Mich. -- It’s an end of an era in Saginaw County.During Tuesday’s primary election, voters chose Democrat William L. Federspiel over 10-year Sheriff Charles L. Brown, 53 percent to 46 percent. The upset didn’t set well with the surprised Brown."I’m a little disappointed with who won,” Brown said. “I don’t respect him or the way he won this, but the bottom line is he’s got the job...and the people have made their choice."
Federspiel, a 40-year-old Saginaw Township officer will now face Republican Kevin Campbell, of St. Charles, in the Tuesday, Nov. 4, general election.“This shows me that the people of Saginaw County, not only were ready for change, but were ready for big change,” Federspiel said afterwards. “I want to return the office of Sheriff to Saginaw County.”Brown has been the leader of Saginaw County's police force ever since he took the position in December of 1998.
