Midland police responded to an injury crash Tuesday after receiving a call that an elderly man in a wheelchair had been struck at North Saginaw Road and Orchard Drive.

The department investigation determined that 81-year-old James Edward Kastl, of Midland, was on the sidewalk of Orchard Drive in a motorized wheel chair crossing north Saginaw Road when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by James Allen Dorgan, 32, from Grand Blanc.

Police said the light for North Saginaw was green and the light for Orchard was red when Kastl entered the crosswalk.

Kastl was transported by EMS to Mid-Michigan Health, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

The accident is still under investigation and final reports will be sent to the Midland County Prosecutor's Office.
