Plans are moving forward to begin another downtown streetscaping project in Saginaw.

The city is pursuing state Department of Transportation money to partially support a proposal with a $5 million price tag. City Council approved the initiative on Monday.

The plan would give East Genesee between North Franklin and Janes a makeover with updated streetlights, colored sidewalks, tiles and decorative benches.

The plan would also improve the sewer and water systems.

City officials without the state fund, the plan would have to see major cuts back.
