Two suspects are in police custody for their connection in an unarmed robbery in the streets of Mount Pleasant.

Mount Pleasant police said a 20-year-old was robbed and beaten while he was walking near Sweeney and Abbey streets just after 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The victim told police two people approached him, asking for cigarettes.

Shortly after he was punched and threw to the ground. Police said the duo took his wallet and cellular phone.

After removing approximately $35 from the wallet, the suspects threw the wallet and cellular phone back at him.

When the victim began trying to call the police, one of the suspects assaulted him again and took the cellular phone, according to police.

Later that morning, an Isabella County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to an apartment complex off of Bluegrass Road near Isabella Road for an unrelated complaint.

The deputy apprehended two individuals, but it wasn’t until an investigation revealed the two as the same two suspects responsible for the earlier robbery at Sweeney and Abbey streets.

Police said both suspects have a Detroit and Central Michigan University address.
