A newly constructed brick building in the 500 block of South Saginaw Street in the heart of downtown Flint will open to the public today.

The Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a news conference regarding the opening of the Wade Trim Building Tuesday afternoon.

WNEM TV5 General Manager Al Blinke and news anchor Katie O’Mara will also be on hand to discuss TV5’s role in the new building.

Last September WNEM signed a 10-year lease in the facility and announced plans for a state-of-the art Genesee County newsroom.

Blinke said construction on the new studio is nearly complete and he hopes to move into the 2,500-square-foot space by mid-October.

The ground level studio has large open glass windows, allowing people walking on Saginaw Street a unique view of broadcasts in process.

The downtown Flint location will be a return for the television news station.

In the 60s, they had an office in the Durrant Hotel. In recent years, TV5 has been operating out of an office plaza in the Gateway Center off Hill Road.

Wade Trim, a civil engineering firm, is leasing the building's entire second floor, which totals about 8,500 square feet. The firm has been a structure in the Flint community for the past 20 years.

The building also has four luxury loft apartments and entertainment-oriented retail spots on the first floor.

A plaza is being developed adjacent to the commercial/office/residential complex that will connect Saginaw Street and Brush Alley to serve as a gathering point for lunch goers and pedestrians.

Stay tuned to TV5 for a live report during an evening newscast.
