Could the chairman of Dow Chemical be tapped as President-elect Barack Obama’s Energy Secretary?

According to the Saginaw News, Andrew Liveris’ name is being thrown out as a possibility.

Liveris made a big speech in Detroit this past fall calling for a national industrial and energy strategy.

Liveris released a statement Wednesday, saying “While it is certainly an honor for me to be mentioned in some reports about this incredibly important leadership role, my focus is on leading The Dow Chemical Company and making our company competitive in this ever-changing and extremely challenging global economic environment.”

He went on to say, “There is no doubt that a sound and reasonable energy policy must be a priority for the Obama administration.”

Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s name has also been mentioned as a possibility for the incoming Obama administration.
