SAGINAW, Mich. -- Police in Saginaw said three young girls missing since their mother was found dead at their home have been found safe.Police found the body of 32-year-old Erica Olguin at her home Monday after she failed to pick up her 11-year-old son at school.Authorities then issued a nationwide Amber Alert for her daughters, 3-year-old Victoria, 5-year-old Lilliana and 9-year-old Elena.Police said her estranged husband, Jose Olguin, spent Monday night with the girls and relatives in Elkhart, Indiana.
TV5 is told Olguin was driving back to Saginaw County when he had a change of heart and made a U-turn, went south to go back to Indiana, and that’s when he was spotted by authorities. As Olguin headed towards Owosso, that’s when a state police officer spotted the yellow 1984 Buick.Police trapped Olguin in a parking lot, but he would not get out of the vehicle.“He proceeded to sit there and stare at us,” said Michigan State Police Deputy John Gooch. “[He] put the vehicle in drive and proceeded to go forward at which time I smashed the drivers’ side window out and opened the door and ordered him out at Taser-point.”The three girls were taken to the Owosso Police Department before being transferred to Saginaw.TV5 is told the three girls do not know the fate of their mother.Authorities said they haven't determined the cause of death but that it's considered to be a homicide.Police said Olguin remains a person of interest. Two police officers have told TV5 that Olguin has confessed to the killing.
