A horse pulling an Amish carriage had to be put down after it was hit by a car Sunday afternoon in Broomfield Township.

The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department said the 15-year-old carriage operator failed to stop for a stop sign at the corner Blanchard and Woodruff roads.

The horse and the carriage were then struck by a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 44-year-old Blanchard man.

Deputies told TV5 neither of the drivers was injured but the horse suffered severe injuries and was put down shortly after.

The incident remains under investigation by the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department.
