MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- A former Central Michigan University football player was arrested Tuesday night after police said he attempted to rape a female friend.Darren Paul Martin, 22, is facing a 10-count warrant including unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to commit sexual penetration, attempted sexual conduct in the third degree, five counts of assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer and possession of marijuana.According to a news release, when police arrived at Martin’s apartment they found the former athlete “flailing his arms back and fourth, yelling unrecognizable words.”After attempts to calm him down police said officers were forced to use a Taser on him.Police said the female friend visited Martin at his apartment because she was told by acquaintances that he was “acting weird.”While she was there he allegedly attacked her, pinned her down and ripped off her clothing.Martin played sparingly at wide receiver for the Chippewas from 2004 to 2008.He is currently lodged at the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department.
