Bay City Woman Will Remain In Jail Awaiting Trial

A second trial has been scheduled for a 49-year-old Bay City woman sentenced to life in prison in the death of her 7-year-old daughter.

Bay County Circuit Judge William Caprathe has set March 24 as the date of Donna Yost's new murder trial.

A jury convicted Yost in 2006 of killing her daughter, Monique, with an overdose of medication.

Authorities had claimed the girl was killed in 2000 to block an investigation of possible sexual abuse by others.

The state appeals court ordered a new trial, saying the trial judge excluded too much evidence for the defense.

The Michigan Supreme Court let that ruling stand last month.

Caprathe on Friday denied a defense motion to allow Yost to be released from jail until trial.
