Officials Make Announcement During Children’s Mass

A Flint-area Catholic school that faced certain closure will now remain open.

During a children’s mass on Friday, Fr. Paul Schwermer announced that Holy Rosary, 5191 Richfield Road, will stay open despite declining enrollment and a lack of funding.

In January, the Diocese of Lansing announced the school would close at end of the school year. Since then parents, school administrators and parishioners have worked together to help raise funds and enroll students.

"Congratulations to all members of the school improvement team and the hundreds of parents, staff, teachers, parishioners community leaders and friends for their dedication and hard work to keep Holy Rosary Catholic School open and thriving," Swermer said in a news release.
