CARROLLTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Firefighters were called back to the scene of a fire where a woman died after being trapped inside her home Thursday.Marie Botwright, 66, perished in the fire which is still being investigated.Carrollton Township Fire Chief Thomas Czerniak said preliminary findings indicate the fire was an accident and that the woman most likely died from smoke inhalation. The fire initially broke out just after 11 a.m. Thursday at 3520 Bauer Drive.Authorities said the woman was bedridden and not able to flee the flames. Her husband did manage to escape.A neighbor spotted the flames and dialed 911 before attempting to rescue the woman.“Bad things happen sometimes,” said the neighbor. “Some things you can’t help -- it would have been nice if I could have got her out, though.”One firefighter did suffer leg injuries while extinguishing the fire.
