BIRCH RUN, Mich. -- Only months after breaking ground on a new Sonic restaurant in Flint, preparations are under way for another Mid-Michigan location.Thursday was the ground breaking ceremony for the soon-to-be Birch Run restaurant location. On July 30, the new Sonic will open and employ 150 people.Bill Wentworth, of Miller Apple Ltd. Partnership, talked with TV5 about the new project.“The restaurant that we have on Miller Road [in Flint] is doing really well,” said Wentworth. “We are pleased with the sales there. In Birch Run, it will be the same.”Sonic restaurant dining is different from other restaurants as its drive-in dining.Servers skate to the cars with customer orders, which range from burgers to ice cream sundaes. The concept of Sonic as an extra eatery choice is a big hit for Flint residents.“We plan on opening 12 restaurants in the next four years,” said Wentworth.Servers at Sonic often take home $100 to $200 in tips per day.
