Is Midland the best tennis town in America?

If you think so, the Midland Community Tennis Center is asking for your help.

Officials at MCTC are applying for a national award given out by the United States Tennis Association and a chance at $100,000 for the tennis community.

The tennis center is calling for everyone in the tennis world to come to the center on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. for the largest ball toss in history.

An aerial picture will be taken and submitted to the USTA. If selected, America will then vote online to pick the top three.

The selected three will head to the US Open in New York where they will be awarded money to invest in tennis for their town.

First place will walk away with $100,000 to be used for community wide programming or facility enhancements, as approved by USTA.

The second place prize is $50,000 and third place will chalk up $25,000,

Director of Leagues & Open Play Programs Erin Mazurek said the goal is to have more than 1,000 people show up to the courts.

“Come as you are, we'll provide the tennis balls, you provide the energy to show the Midland passion and spirit,” Mazurek said in a news release.

Midland is home to the Dow Corning Tennis Classic, a USTA Pro Circuit event.
