Employees of Saginaw County will no longer be able to use a cell phone while operating a county vehicle.

The policy change will take effect immediately after the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners vote in favor of the policy 12-3.

The ban only affects employees while they are on duty operating authority vehicles.

Officials said the new cell phone rule will help keep their employees and Michigan roadways safe.

The ban will not affect law enforcement.
