Fire investigators said a fast-moving fire that badly damaged a Grand Blanc Township home was accidentally started by a sparkler.

The fire began in an attached garage at a house located in the 1300 block of Rollins Street about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire officials said a child thought the sparkler was out when he tossed it into a garage trash can.

The fire quickly spread to the house and caused about $100,000 of damage.

A neighboring home sustained minor damages as well.

Fire officials said no one was injured.

With Independence Day on the horizon, this is a boom time for consumer fireworks sales.
