SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A Saginaw Township man was sentenced to life in prison for the beating death of his 4-month-old daughter.

Last month a jury convicted Scott Perreault, 29, of felony murder and first-degree child abuse of Jenna Perreault.

The case stems from a September 2008 incident when police responded to a call South Colony Apartments that the baby was having difficulty breathing.

Medical personnel said internal injuries to the child led to the breathing troubles. The 4-month-old died a day afterwards in a Saginaw hospital.

Authorities would later announce that Perreault died of a skull fracture.

Prosecutors said Perreault told three different versions of how his daughter suffered the fatal injuries at the home she shared with her mother.

Perreault maintained his innocence and, according to published reports, will appeal his conviction.
