Back From Iraq, Soldier Buys New Camaro

Washington State-Based Soldier Picked Up Car At Rose City Dealership

A soldier serving overseas has come home to his friends, loved ones and a new car.

Matthew Conley, from the state of Washington, was in Iraq when he saw a picture of the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

He decided at that moment that this was what he wanted to drive when he got back to the United States.

But after several calls in his home state turned up nothing, he took a shot in the dark and dialed Fernelius Chevrolet in Rose City, Mich., because his wife was from the area.

As Conley talked to a salesman over the phone, the salesman noticed the exact car the soldier described being unloaded from a transport truck.

“He said, 'It just got it off the truck, it was just right here,'" said Conley. “I couldn't have been happier.”

The soldier continued: “I said, it’s mine, can I have it? (and the salesman said) 'you may have to put some money down.' I was like, how much do you want?”

Conley wired money to the dealership to hold the car and despite offers from many other buyers, the car sat on the lot for months until he got back to the states to pick it up.

Conley and his wife plan to drive the Camaro back to Washington.
