Pit Bulls' Owner Going To Trial In 2 Weeks

A man credited with rescuing a woman from a pack of attacking pit bulls may lose fingers and toes because of the injuries he suffered.

In March, Duane Vanlanham pushed his neighbor, Bridgetta Hadley, into a car when he saw her being attacked by the dogs, but be could not escape before being mauled.

Doctors are telling TV5 Vanlanham will have all of his fingers on one hand amputated in an effort to keep him alive.

Vanlanham said Tuesday he would not wish the pain and suffering he’s going through on his worst enemy, not even the person who Buena Vista Township police said owned those vicious dogs.

“I might lose a few toes and fingers from my hand,” said Vanlanham.

Doctors said Vanlanham contracted a blood infection while recovering from the attack.

Now, his fingers are swollen and dark and doctors almost gave up hope for his hand last week.

Earlier Tuesday TV5 caught up with the owner of the pit bulls, Anthony Hunt.

He and his significant other go on trial in two weeks.

“It’s not his fault,” said Vanlanham. “I don’t wish no bad luck on nobody.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that an American has a one in 50 chance of being bitten by a dog each year.

In 2007, there were 33 fatal dog maulings in the United States and two were in Michigan.
