FLINT, Mich. -- Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton charged Deborah Sue Burke, 40, of Fenton, Mich., with one count of embezzlement Monday after she was accused of stealing money that was paid by residents for their water and property tax bills.Leyton said that Burke manipulated the Linden’s city records in an attempt to hide her actions and that she targeted those residents who had a practice of paying their city bills in cash.Leyton said that the Sheriff's investigation shows Burk stole $2,921 between May of 2008 and May of 2009.Leyton also indicated that his office would be seeking full restitution, which would go to the City's bonding company which covers the City's losses.Burke resigned from her job in May after city officials put her on administrative leave while they investigated her actions. She will be arraigned on the charges in 67th District Court and a pre-trial conference will be scheduled.Embezzlement is a felony that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
