Owosso Company To Hire 50 For Bus Project

OWOSSO, Mich. -- About 50 new jobs will be added by a Mid-Michigan bus company.Midwest Bus Corporation, in Owosso, made the announcement Tuesday.A contract for the rehabilitation of 130 busses from the Massachusetts Transit System was announced by U.S. Rep. Dave Camp.“We are all happy we just have a job,” said Midwest Bus worker Jeff Francis. “Too many people are loosing and its kind of stable here.”The rebuilding project is expected to take about two years to complete.“The remanufacturing of these buses will involve everything from ground up,” said Midwest Bus president Dan Morrill.When complete, the buses will be like new and on the road for another eight years.Camp said the contract not only means new jobs but growth for the community."It also means training at Baker College, loans for Chemical Bank and money in the community that can be used again and again,” said Camp. “It has a positive impact for the region.”The new bus contract will not only provide jobs to the Owosso area, but they will also be converted to run on compressed natural gas instead of diesel, making them eco-friendly.
