BAY COUNTY, Mich. -- A greenhouse near the Weiss Fruit Market on M-13 in Kawkawlin caught fire early Wednesday morning.Fifteen-foot high flames could be seen soaring above the greenhouse, which was filled with more than 1,000 bales of straw.Firefighters at the scene told WNEM TV5’s Jay Brandow the fire was difficult to extinguish because the dry straw continually fueled the blaze.Instead of dousing the blaze, firefighters decided to let it burn itself out. It was expected to burn at least through mid-morning.M-13 was also shutdown for more than an hour but has since reopened. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but officials have deemed the blaze suspicious. No damage estimate was available. The market, located on the rear of the property, was not damaged by the fire.
