Low Enrollment Closes Valley Christian Academy
School Needed 160 Students; Only 100 Enrolled

BURTON, Mich. -- Just days before most Mid-Michigan students head back to school, one building will be staying closed.Valley Christian Academy in Burton will not reopen due to low enrollment.The school set an enrollment goal of 160 students to keep the doors open. About a 100 registered.The school's director said it’s very possible the school will reopen in the near future.Now 17 teachers and staff members are out of jobs."It’s heart-breaking, it really is,” said Destiny Riley, a former teacher at the school. “I hoped to be here for a long time."The school didn't give up without a fight. They tried a last-minute tactic, lowering tuition, but that still didn't work."Our tuition last year was $5,000 and we lowered it to $2,500 this year,” said the academy’s principal, Sam Pace.
