OGEMAW COUNTY, Mich. -- One Mid-Michigan resident said he was growing marijuana within guidelines set by the state, but police came and confiscated the stash anyway. It happened at a home in the city of West Branch.Ron Klug said medical marijuana helps him survive days when back pain becomes unbearable and that’s why he started growing the drug at his home in southern Ogemaw County. But recently, investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies showed up with a search warrant to inspect it after receiving a complaint about the garden in his back yard. The 59-year-old Klug, who said he suffers from chronic neck and back pain, believes he followed all the guidelines set by the state to grow and use marijuana.“You are allowed to have 12 plants – I had 11 plants – you’re allowed to have 2.5 ounces of usable marijuana, I had five grams -- not even a quarter of an ounce," said Klug. When talking about his pain, Klug said “you never know -- you can make wrong move and it’s like someone is stabbing you in the neck.”Klug said he grew seven plants inside a locked cage outdoors and said the plants were a few weeks shy of harvesting -- each worth nearly $2,000.Prosecuting attorney Ladonna Schultz said the case is still being investigated and no charges have been filed in her office.“They took my medicine,” said Klug. “I hope that at some point they see the error of their ways.”Krug said he has enough of the drug to get himself through the end of this week.
