Harbor Beach officials told WNEM TV5 that an anhydrous ammonia leak occurred at the Dow Agri-Sciences plant Monday afternoon.

The leak developed at the Dow Chemical facility, 305 N. Huron, after a 10,000-gallon anhydrous ammonia tank sprung a leak around 2:45 p.m.

An official from Dow said about a dozen residents north of the plant were temporarily evacuated.

The leak was under control in about 15 minutes.

Anhydrous ammonia can be a major health hazard if inhaled.

It’s not known at this time what caused the leak, but no injuries were reported.
