FLINT, Mich. -- Central Michigan University has agreed to purchase Flint’s public broadcasting station WFUM-TV.The Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to purchase WFUM (Channel 28) from the University of Michigan for $1 million.The number of CMU Public Television viewers could triple from 2.4 million to more than 8 million with the move, according to reports.UM announced it April it would stop operating the television station because it could no longer afford it, citing a 28-percent decline in member support.The station has broadcast since 1980 as WFUM-TV and has offices and studios on the University of Michigan-Flint campus.WFUM covers from Bay City to the metro Detroit area.CMU will maintain PBS television programming in the Flint region.
