Michigan State Police troopers from the East Tawas Post said a man was hospitalized with serious injuries after he fell into the roadway in Iosco County and was hit by a car.

According to a news release, 56-year-old Steven Ogden was walking with his wife along US-23 near Baldwin Resort Road when he became tired and attempted to sit down on what he believed was the curb, but was actually the fog line of the roadway.

Police said when Ogden started to sit down; he fell backwards into US-23 and was struck by a northbound vehicle.

The 35-year-old driver, Leonard Morris, told police he wasn’t able to see Ogden until it was too late to avoid the collision.

Police said Ogden was also dressed in dark clothing.

He was hospitalized at St. Mary’s in Saginaw for severe head trauma. His condition was not immediately available.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
