Township Can't Afford To Keep Building Open

Some seniors in Saginaw County will need to find a new place to receive meals and other services because the Bridgeport Senior Center is slated to close.

Saginaw County Commission on Aging said the Bicentennial Hall, 3620 Southfield, will close in late November or early December because Bridgeport Township can’t afford to keep the building open.

Bridgeport Senior Center is open three days a week and catteries to more than dozen seniors.

The hall’s closure will save the township about $43,000 a year. It cost the Saginaw County Commission on Aging about $8,000 a year to rent out.

Karen Courneya, director of Saginaw County Commission on Aging, said they are trying to find another location at a reasonable price.

In the meantime, seniors can go to the Buena Vista Community Center and Frankenmuth Community Center.

Courneya also said the Meals on Wheels program will not be affected.

There are currently 13 senior centers in the county.
