CLARE, Mich. -- Over 560 volunteers in Clare will be packing meals for starving children starting Friday.

Through collaboration between a Clare organizational team and Minnesota-based Feed My Starving Children, volunteers will prepare 115,000 meals containing rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, vitamins and minerals.

The event will take place through Saturday in a Clare warehouse located at 302 E. 4th St. at Hemlock St.

In all, members of the Clare community helped raise $20,000 for the organization.

Officials said a single bag of food -- which provides meals for six children -- costs around $1 to produce.

In 2008, FMSC sent 73.6 million meals around the world and had more than 310,000 volunteers.
