Clare County sheriff deputies arrested a Vassar man Friday for allegedly passing counterfeit bills at two local stores.

Andrew Mullin, 45, of Vassar, was taken into police custody after employees of a Dodge City grocery store notified them of the suspected phony $20 bills.

The money and video surveillance of the transaction was confiscated by police.

Hours later, investigators tracked the bills -- all with the same serial number -- to Miceli's Bar in Harrison.

Deputies recovered over $2,500 in counterfeit $20 bills from a man who was sitting at the bar.

He was taken to the Clare County Jail. Deputies said they have notified the U.S. Secret Service.

Deputies said before the money was identified as counterfeit, some was handed out as change.

A customer who received the change unknowingly used a fake $20 at the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mount Pleasant.
