SAGINAW, Mich. -- Greg Branch officially replaced incumbent Joyce Seals as mayor of Saginaw in a 5-2 vote Monday.

Branch, an advertising executive, said he plans to preserve gains in public safety and continue to fight blight in the city.

Seals, who defeated Branch two years ago, said she plans to keep involved in community activities.

Council member Amos O’Neal also beat Larry Coulouris to become mayor pro-tem.

The newly elected officials were sworn in during Monday night’s City Council meeting.

Meanwhile, Tuesday Midland welcomed its first female mayor in city history.

Monday night, the city council selected Maureen Donker to serve as mayor for the next two years.

She won a 4-to-1 vote over two-term incumbent Bruce Johnson.

Donker said her top concerns are the economy and jobs.
