SAGINAW COUNTY, Mich. -- Gov. Jennifer Granholm is planning a visit to Saginaw Valley State University Wednesday. The governor is expected to discuss the Michigan Promise Scholarship fund. The budget fiasco in Lansing has left the program unfunded, leaving nearly 100,000 university students scrambling for money to cover college costs.SVSU and Michigan State University have both stated they will honor the promise, even if the program is not funded by the state budget.Granholm will talk to students at 12:30 p.m. and count on WNEM TV5 for complete coverage of the event.Last week, the Democratic governor again called on the Republican-led Senate to immediately vote on proposals that would prevent some school funding cuts. The governor has ordered a $127 per student cut in school funding to take effect in December unless the legislature votes for additional revenue within the next two weeks. She also vetoed about $52 million in funding for wealthier districts.
