MIDLAND, Mich. -- Tonight the Midland Public Schools will outline plans to close several elementary schools. The proposal was unveiled at a special meeting Nov. 5. A committee came up with two options to save money. One would close four elementary schools -- Chippewassee, Longview, Parkdale and Woodcrest. The other involves five elementary schools -- Chippewassee, Cook, Longview, Parkdale and Mills. The school board will meet Monday night to consider their budget-cutting options.Wealthier districts across the area are being forced to make cuts after losing funding from the state. The district said a decline in enrollment also drove the need to consolidate the school system. There’s no word on if a final decision is expected to be made tonight.Tune in to WNEM TV5 News at 11 p.m. for a recap of the meeting.
