A $177 million solar modular plant and 500 new jobs could be on the way to Saginaw.

But the city will need to compete against a Texas community first.

The two cities are in talks with Globalwatt, a California-based solar industry company.

The Saginaw City Council is considering a Brownfield redevelopment plan that would earn the company $10 million in state tax credits.

Globalwatt is expected to make a decision by the end of December.

The Texas town being considered has not been named.

Six months ago, Globalwatt entered a research and development partnership with TAMUCC at Corpus Christi, Texas.
