FLINT, Mich. -- A Genesee County jury has convicted a Grand Blanc Township man of multiple counts of sexual assault involving children, according to Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.Charles Judson Phillips, 37, was convicted Tuesday of six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, five counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, and one count each of possession of child sexually abusive material and accosting a child for immoral purposes. The most serious offenses carry a possible maximum sentence of life in prison.Leyton said the incidents, which involved nine boys and one girl, began in late 2006 and continued through earlier this year.Reports from the police investigation and testimony at trial indicated that Phillips sexually assaulted and photographed the children, said Leyton.Authorities said most of the incidents took place at Phillips' home and in a tent in his parents' back yard at a child’s birthday party.Police said they also recovered e-mails and text messages Phillips sent that were sexual in nature."This is a serial child sexual abuser," Leyton said. "You have a man who forced himself upon young children, repeatedly, in various ways -- it's deeply disturbing.”A sentencing date has been set in Genesee County Circuit Court for Jan. 13, 2010.
