An 83-year-old man attempting to walk home after leaving his disabled car was struck and killed Tuesday on M-25 in Huron County.

Huron County sheriff's deputies said Clayton V. Diller, of Bay Port, was crossing M-25 near Geiger Road in Fairhaven Township around 6:30 a.m. when a southbound vehicle struck and killed him.

Deputies believe Diller had driven his vehicle into the east side ditch, which was directly across the driveway from his residence on South Unionville Road.

According to a news release issued by Sheriff Kelly Hanson, Diller "looked as if he was walking back across the road when he walked into the path of a vehicle," that was driven by 58-year-old Rebecca McGeathy, of Caseville.

McGeathy told police she didn't notice the individual in the roadway until it was too late. Hanson said she was driving around 45 mph.

Diller was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hanson said deputies will continue to investigate the fatal crash.
